1. Rich protein
Spirulina Powder, as a kind of bacteria, is rich in protein and can be called "single cell protein". Dried Spirulina protein accounts for about 60 percent of the total weight, including eight essential amino acids. It is a good protein supplement, especially for vegetarians. Of course, for omnivores and carnivores, spirulina has no obvious advantage.

2. Multivitamins, but no vitamin B12
Spirulina Powder contains a variety of vitamins. Its water solubility includes Vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid and folic acid, and its fat solubility includes vitamins A, e and K. It should be noted that Spirulina was found to be rich in vitamin B12 in the past, which can be used as a good dietary supplement for vegetarians. However, recent studies have found that Spirulina contains a compound with a structure similar to that of vitamin B12. This substance will be mistaken for vitamin B12 by some immunoassay instruments, but in fact, these substances can not play the nutritional role of vitamin B12. According to a more accurate method, spirulina does not contain vitamin B12.

3. Minerals: can supplement iron, not iodine
Spirulina contains many trace elements such as iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc. Iron can reach 28.5mg/100g. Although it is non heme iron, it is undoubtedly a good source of iron for vegetarians.
Then there is the problem. Many people think that Spirulina is seaweed, so they think that eating Spirulina can replenish iodine. In fact, the iodine content of Spirulina is very low, and the iodine content is not listed in the USDA database, so it can not be used as iodine supplement food.
4.Quantity of heat
Spirulina is not high in calories and fat and carbohydrate content. Proper supplementation generally will not delay the weight loss plan. However, because it is generally made into tablets now, there is no sense of satiety, and it is impossible to compete with big fish and meat sweets for your stomach space.

In short, Spirulina is rich in protein and iron, which is a good source of protein and iron for vegetarians (if vegetarians think bacteria are vegetarian), but for omnivores, there are many other options for protein and iron, and spirulina has no obvious advantage. Spirulina also contains almost no vitamin B12 and iodine.
